Freecycle.org: Got Something You Wanna Get Rid Of?

freecycle.png
So I was told about a great resource. It’s called Freecylce.org.
This site is a great place to get rid of that item that you just don’t want to throw into a landfill. Basically the idea of the site is to get rid of unwanted stuff by giving it away to the first person willing to come pick it up. Once you have given something away, you are allowed to make requests for an item you might need that someone else wants to part with! Everything is free, all you have to do is go pick it up!

I recently used it to get rid of a printer I had that I no longer had the patience for as it always jammed. So I listed it with freecycle, and now two days later it belongs to a lady that came and picked it up! She wanted to try and fix it and get it working right again! I’m all for it, and that big tank of a laser printer is gone now! One less heavy thing to move! It was a little scary though, the woman kind of smelled a bit of urine, but she was nice enough. It was weird though, she was very unhygienic, but drove a porsche!

With a new house around the corner, I may be looking for quite a few items!

The Non-Smoking State of Colorado!

1151864.png
So today, Colorado became the 13th state to make a statewide ban of smoking in Restaurants, Bars and the workplace! In one of the first things that Governor Owens has done that I am actually happy about, he signed the House Bill 1175. The law goes into effect on July 1, 2006. As a non-smoker, I have had to give up on going to bars because of the second hand smoke that permeates these places. I always liked going out for a fun night of dancing, but couldn’t handle the smoke. I always started feeling sick, and had a hard time breathing. I know that many smokers feel that we are taking some of their freedoms away with this new law, but when their actions are unhealthy for people around them, it is the non-smoker’s freedom that has been taken away. I am very happy to know that in a few months, I will finally be able to head out and spend time with my friends who like to frequent the bars again! Thank you Owens for doing something good for the State of Colorado!

I Told You We Had Goofy! (Well, Pluto): Pictures!

new-house.png

So I had Dan take some pictures during the inspection! Here they are in their glory! Dumbo, Pluto (I was corrected, it’s not Goofy, oops!) and Donald! I have also put some other picture of the house up. Never have Dan take pictures if you are trying to document something! He likes to go for the artsy fartsy pictures! 😉

It is going to need a little more work than I had thought, but still at $97k I think we’ll be fine. It needs a new roof and a new furnace, so if you know anybody in the furnace business, please let me know. I am still very excited and can’t wait till we get to move in! Moving day may be delayed depending on how much prep work we can get done leading up to April 15th, otherwise, it will be the following Saturday. It will definitely be an adventure fixing this place up, but in the end I think it will be really nice and perfect for the two of us!

I look forward to having a get together with everyone so you can see our new home!

That Big News!! A Week Late, But I Can Now Announce It

258248a.png
My offer has officially been accepted on a house! I found out today that the bank has sent back a signed contract. So now, pending an inspection this Friday, I will be the proud owner of a 2 bedroom, 1 bath (eventually 3 bedrooms, 1 1/2 baths) home in Aurora.

It has a huge backyard (did I hear BBQ?) with the potential to add on to the house later. The garage no longer exists as the previous owners started converting it to a room, but never finished it. That will be the future master bedroom! It needs some TLC, but it was priced right. So anyone thinking of some nice housewarming gifts, Lowe’s gift cards will work very nicely! (Oh and Target) 😉 Dan and I are trying to agree on colors for the different rooms! But we both agree the Dumbo and Goofy in the second bedroom must go! There is a large painting of the two of them in the room.

We are planning to have a housewarming party shortly after moving in. More details to come on that! It has a cute picket fence around the front as you can see, Dan plans on painting it white of course! And maybe eventually the garage door will be gone, since there is no garage anymore. Well, I will post more about the house as soon as I have the info. If all goes well, I will close on April 12th, and Dan and I will be moving on Tax day!

Ahh, the Fun of Killing Ourselves!

img_3110.png
Well, yesterday, My two friend’s, Steve and Missy, and myself took the ski train up to Winter Park for a day of skiing! The train ride is such a nice relaxing way of getting there… no traffic to deal with, no stress of dumb drivers cutting you off! And that is one smooth train ride I will tell you. Also nice after a long day of skiing to not have to then drive back down the mountain.

I love to ski, wish it weren’t so expensive, I would do it more often! But the day after is so painful! Every inch of my body hurts right now! It was a beautiful day for skiing, almost shorts weather! The picture above was taken at the top of the Winter Park resort, about 12,100 feet high, above timberline!

Burger King Now Supports the Big Mac!

index.png

While the King still creeps me out, and has caused nightmares since the first time I saw that awful plastic head, and dead curtain clad King score a touchdown, I have to give props to Burger King’s choice of computer! If you go to the Bonus Material, they have a bunch of downloads. Under the music category, you can download the Garageband file of the theme song from the Wopperettes commercial. The mac must finally be making the mainstream if a burger joint has gone to the trouble of designing a site for us! Thanks to Howard at thewebpen.net for bringing this site to my attention.

Shouldn’t They Be the Junkyard Cars?

newcars_homepageimage.png
They don’t look so new in this picture above to me! I loved the Cars growing up. Still listen to them, but as one of the latest bands trying to make a comeback, why did THEY feel the need to change their name? Now called, The New Cars, they will be touring this summer with Blondie (not The New Blondie!) We’ve seen many bands make returns to the stage this last year, none of them felt the need to say they are The New (insert band) just because they have a new singer, or drummer, or whatever! I say just go back to being The Cars! And lets hope that you actually have music worth making a comeback for!

Sensitivity Shmensitivity! Don’t Mock My God!

chef.png

Long time cast member of “South Park” Isaac Hayes has left the show after 9 seasons due to religious differences. He feels that the writers have crossed a line in too far with their stance on religious, and also that they are bigoted towards religion. This as a result of a recent episode that made fun of Scientology, a religion that Mr. Hayes is a long time and devoted member of.

Story

Matt Stone has been quoted as saying:

“This is 100 percent having to do with his faith of Scientology… He has no problem _ and he’s cashed plenty of checks _ with our show making fun of Christians.” -Associated Press

In this day of Political Correctness, we need shows like South Park that cross that line to make us realize how ridiculous many of our traditions and practices are. I am sad to see him leave the show, but if he can’t laugh at himself, then he really has no right to laugh at others! I think one of Dan’s friends has the perfect solution to deal with Chef’s character. Fuck You Dan (as I refer to him, since he says Fuck every other word) thinks that they should have Chef have some horrible accident that leaves Chef white. Then they have Barry Manilow come in as his replacement for Chef’s voice!
