Well, I Didn’t Have It This Bad, But…

sink_hole_truck.pngI would like to take the time to thank the Good Samaritan that stopped this morning to help get my truck out of it’s predicament! I feel bad because once I got going I didn’t stop to thank you because I was afraid of getting stuck again!

I was trying to get out of the way of a car turning on to the street I was on, and slid right into the curb and was straddled on the corner of the intersection. I sat there for 10 minutes trying to get out, but every time I started to make headway, I’d have to stop to avoid oncoming traffic, which just seemed to get me more stuck.

Finally, a gentleman in a huge Hummer stopped and asked if I was stuck… He was from the mountains and is used to pulling people out of the snow, so he had a tow rope in his truck. He hooked up to my bumper pulled me right out, and I was back on the road. So to whoever you were in the big Champagne colored Hummer… THANK YOU for your help this morning! I will stop talking ill of Hummers now, as long as the owner has reason to have one! No soccer moms though! That’s right out!

Well, I spent this past weekend putting up the Christmas Tree as well as decorating the outside fence with some lights! It’s been a long time since I was last able to decorate for the holidays!

Anyway, in honor of the holidays, I bring you one of the best rants from Christmas Vacation! A little bit how I am feeling after finding out that good olé Six Flags has decided to not send out our bonuses this year!

Also a great little ad for TBWA/Vancouver

Blond, James Bond

cr03090605.png
Well, the Blond Bond-Shell is finally on the big screen! Daniel Craig makes his debut as the legendary spy hero James Bond today. I have just returned from the movie, a lengthy 2 hours 24 minutes, and I must say, Bond is BACK! I have certainly enjoyed the past four films with Pierce Brosnan, but Craig has taken Bond back to his ego-centric roots in the movie that starts Bonds career.

Casino Royale opens with stark black and white scene showing just how he earns his Double-O rating. Stripped of all the fanciful Q gadgets in this film, he gets his job done through his fist and his gun. This film harkens back to the early days of just what makes Bond great. Like Connery, Craig, brings an edginess to the character that has been somewhat lacking in later incarnations. We also get to see a vulnerable side of Bond that helps to explain just why he is the way he is.

As in the past 4 movies, Judi Dench has once again proven that she was indeed the right choice for M. She has some of the best scenes in the movie. She has the perfect balance of properness fitting a lady, while having the “balls” to perform the job she does.

I am very excited to see where Craig takes this incarnation of Bond in however many he signs on for. He has certainly made Casino Royale one of the must see Bond films of all time! I applaud the producers for being able to strip it back down to the basics without all the flash, and still make a highly entertaining film!

My only gripe would have been to find a way to cut the film down to 2 hours. Towards the end it started to feel like it was never going to end. It’s just such a long adrenaline rush for such a long period, that you leave exhausted. So in the end I give Casino Royale an A-.

Tough Choices Have To Be Made

As many of you know, I bought a new house back in April. I am still trying to sell my condo after 14 months. This market in Denver just isn’t moving. As of this past Friday, I am officially broke, and am looking at a difficult road ahead maintaining the mortgage on two places. I gambled with buying the house that the condo would have sold long ago. I have had the benefit of other sources of income coming in over the past summer (working on a book, selling my old car, and a part-time job).

I am having to come up with an extra $700 a month to keep the condo from being in default. So it is with great sadness that I am announcing that my Dual 2gig g5 tower Mac is officially for sale. I have made some upgrades to it over the years, it has 1 gig of RAM, a DVR video card in it, and 256 meg video card from ATI in it. I am asking $1700 for it. For the exact specs on the g5 model I am selling, visit here.

If you know anyone who is interested, please have them contact me at qphayes@mac.com. I am working on getting it all backed up, and cleaned up, and should have it ready to sell by mid to end of week.

This will give me another 2 months leverage for the condo to sell before I have to take more drastic measures. I do hope that it doesn’t have to come to that. I have re-listed the condo with a new agent. Jeff Pearson with Keller Williams is my new agent. His phone is 303-539-5700 if you know anyone interested. Their website is here, the MLS # is 443206.

I ask that everyone please keep Dan and I in their thoughts, as we enter these tough months ahead. I will be looking to find as much OT as possible here at work, or a PT job if the OT isn’t there. Thanks for listening.

Colorado: Still the Hate State!

co_thss.png
So, obviously, yesterday was the elections. And while we had some great victories in the State of Colorado, the election of Bill Ritter for Governor, and a swing of power in the House, we still had three major losses here. Musgrave still is in office, Amendment 43 was approved, and Referendum I was not approved.

So, obviously, Colorado proved they want change, but only if they can still be hateful. Since earning the reputation in 1992 for the Hate State with Amendment 2 which caused many people to boycott Colorado. For those that don’t remember: In 1992, Colorado voters approved Amendment 2 to the state constitution by a narrow margin (54% to 47%). According to the U.S. Supreme Court decision, it would have prohibited “all legislative, executive, or judicial action at any level of state or local government designed to protect the status of persons based on their ‘homosexual, lesbian or bisexual orientation, conduct, practices or relationships’.” It was deemed unconstitutional by the Colorado Supreme Court.

Fast forward to 2006, We had two ballot initiatives, Amendment 43 to protect marriage as between a man and a woman, and Referendum I that would grant Domestic Partnership rights to all citizens regardless of sex. I was getting hopeful when I saw that Ritter had won as Governor, but then the sad news came through that Amendment 43 had passed and Referendum I had failed. Once again putting Colorado back on the face of the Hate State! To add insult to the injury, the notorious Marilyn Musgrave who was one of the initiators of Amendment 43 won her district to stay in power. This woman who sees protecting marriage to be the most important issue facing Americans today, who has gone out of her way to strip any rights away from GLBT citizens of Colorado.

It is indeed a sad day for equality when these are the results we received here. I am tired of the religious hypocrisy, with people like Ted Haggard out there who are fueling the hatred against their own person, because they have been brainwashed to feel they are morally wrong. I don’t understand what it is that we are exactly threatening by asking for the right to equality. They feel that the very thread of their religion is being threatened by allowing the GLBT population to co-exist. We live in a country that believes in freedom and equality for all, or at least that’s what it was founded on. I understand that they feel that it’s wrong, and that’s fine, for them… But to tell me how I have to live my life, because it’s at odds with their “interpretation” of a book that is thousands of years old is not American in the true sense of the word.

I just hope that Amendment 43 can end up with the same fate as Amendment 2 did back in the early 90s, cut down and declared unconstitutional! By passing this Amendment, it has declared all GLBT citizens to be second class citizens, not worthy of all the same rights and protections of the heterosexual population. In my eyes, that is grounds for being declared unconstitutional just from the basis of equality alone!

Maybe it is time that the entire GLBT population in Colorado show the state just how much we contribute to society. Maybe it’s time we all make the move to Massachusetts or Canada. Maybe once we’re all gone, and they see how many stores no longer have people to run them… or money coming in from organizations such as the Gill Foundation, or all the charity work that the GLBT population contributes to the state, they’ll see just how valuable we are to them.

I am for one ready to start re-evaluating, and looking into moving and starting a new boycott on the state of Colorado! But then with the irrational thoughts that go through these people’s heads, they will celebrate and feel that we have become someone else’s “problem.” No, maybe we just need to stay, and continue to make their lives miserable, just as they have ours!

Weekly Blog-O-Sphere Tid-Bits – November 5, 2006

blog-o-sphere.png
So over at Scott-O-Rama he introduces us to a new slimy game that monopolized far too much of my weekend. Yet it is still addictivly fun!

Fastlad posted a hilarious spoof from MadTV of Memoirs of a Geisha.

Out in Hollywood has a great write up about former Doogie star’s coming out this past week. And also hints that another big celebrity is preparing to out himself next week.

Howard has gathered a bunch of us together to create a new blog about music. Please be sure to check out Waking Up With Morning Song!

Be sure to read Spicy Cauldron’s write up about how the world fears George W. Bush almost as much as Bin Laden!

We should know by December what the fate of Elitch’s will be. I do hope that fate sees it under new management. Six Flags is going to hell in a handbasket, and fast!

Just a reminder that Tuesday is the big VOTE! Please get out and try to make a change in this country! Take Bush’s support away from him!

Ted Haggard Is Just Scary!

I came across this interview of Ted Haggard. It is truly scary to me that he had the opportunity to preach to thousands of people his beliefs. He is a very arrogant, pompous and hypocritical man, even though he is calling the interviewer the pompous man. Regardless of wether he did or didn’t have gay sex, this man needed to be taken out of his position of power. His hateful, and misleading rhetoric has no place in today’s society! As you will see, I think his interview speaks for itself. I wouldn’t be surprised if he wasn’t on that meth while being interviewed!

On a funny note, Dan passed on this hilarious link to me!

Waking Up With Morning Wood (oops) Song

music-id-43cc1b0e16eb1.png
So my friend Howard @ thewebpen has started a new blog that I will be participating in as the muse strikes me. Waking Up With Morning Song is a new blog dedicated to discussing music that we like and as described on the site :

“Welcome to one of a million blogs dedicated to music. We will do our best to make this as interesting and different from other blogs as possible. Many of us are comedians, so you know they’ll be some off-the-wall entries.”

This should be a fun experiment to find out the wide variety of music out there, and just what makes it so special to each of us.

Still No Luck :(

So it’s now been 14 months since I put my condo on the market, and we have dropped the price over $10,000 since initially putting it on the market last September. Today, I have had to make the difficult decision of switching realtors. My realtor has worked really hard, as have I since it went on the market. I am at a loss at this point as to what to do. I am at a point where I can no longer afford both places after November.

I know many have recommended new realtors to me over the past few months, but I need to keep my current realtor in mind as she did help me find the house. She has a few realtors that she is going to try and refer me to. By referring me, she should be able to still get a cut of the sale from the new realtor. I just hope that this is truly what it would take to sell the place finally.

Please, again, if you know of anyone who is looking for a condo, do let them know about my place. I will post the new information when I get it switched over to a new realtor. Please keep me in your thoughts as I continue to try and get back to being a one home owner again!
