Snowed In!!!

img_0038.png

So Dan and I took advantage of today to have some fun in the snow while we waited for the snow to quit! It is finally blue skies out now, and I might be able to return to work tomorrow. Here are some pictures of our adventures today. Thanks to the neighbor kid Sergio for helping with shoveling the driveway! He volunteered to do it for free, but we gave him and his family some spaghetti and ground turkey to make some dinner and a little cash! He seemed really happy to help out!

It’s had been a lot of fun, I haven’t been able to play in the snow like this for a very long time! Hope everyone else in the Denver area got to enjoy today off! The picture above is my snowman from today’s fun! You can see Dan’s decapitated bloody snowman in the background!

I have posted more pictures for you to see here.

I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas… Here it is!

img_0014.jpg

So, today has been quite the blizzard… Hasn’t quite matched the storm of 2003 yet, but I have a feeling it will. Last measurement was 17” here in Aurora. But at a rate of six inches every six hours, and no signs of it letting up, we should easily be at two feet by morning. Add the wind in the mix, and we have snow drifts in our backyard of three to four feet.

I have been putting in major overtime at one of centers that has been really short staffed this holiday season, and tonight was one of those nights I was supposed to work. I was really not looking forward to being out in this weather more than I needed to be. I had been waiting around at my facility for word as to wether they needed me or not.. News came at noon that all Denver area FedEx Kinko’s were closing at 2pm… So I was out that door faster than a speeding bullet! I stopped at Papa Murphey’s for some take home pizza for dinner… and was home by 2pm. It was a long drive home! But unlike the last storm, there was no getting stuck for me… Even with Aurora’s poor road maintenance.

Anyway, in honor of the upcoming holiday, I have created a holiday music mix for all to share. I have added some of the more memorable clips from Christmas Vacation throughout, so I do warn that parts are a tad vulgar! But do enjoy! I shall be posting the song list to the Waking Up With Morning Song blog. And to all, I wish a very Happy Holiday to you all… May it be filled with snow, but not too much as we are seeing! 😉

Merry Christmas: Now Kill the Non-Believers!

The Religious Right is at it again, this time in the form of a video game, the religious right’s violent and hateful video game Left Behind: Eternal Forces.

“This brutal game urges born-again Christians to convert or kill others
who don’t adhere to their extreme ideology – including Muslims, Jews,
and Catholics. While the religious right has not yet come out against this
hate and intolerance masquerading as a children’s game, America’s #1
video game seller should know better.”
– DEFCON

DEFCON is trying to get Wal-Mart to stop carrying this hateful video game, and they need our help to send letters to Wal-Mart asking them to re-evaluate this vicious game. You can find their letter here to sign and send.

It will be interesting to see how Wal-Mart reacts to this. Not wanting to be boycotted by the religious right, they reversed their decision to join the Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. Their reasoning was that they didn’t want to be involved in anything controversial. So with the controversial nature of this game, it will be interesting to see if they decide that this is a controversial issue to stay away from as well.

The religious right is arguing that banning this game is against the 1st amendment. While, it can be seen as that, it is more an issue with a game that is being sold as a religious enlightenment game, that just happens to encourage the killing of people that don’t conform to Christianity. If this were a muslim game promoting the idea of killing people for not believing their ideals, it wouldn’t even make it to the market! This just shows how tight a grasp the right wingnuts have on this country. It’s almost like a training video for a religious war to be unleashed on the world.

Please if you feel the same way as I and DEFCON, please I urge you to go to their site and ask that Wal-Mart reconsider selling this new game, especially now during the holidays when Peace and Understanding are the morals that are supposedly being shown. Parents need to be educated as to what this game is all about!

I Am Still Shaking!

So this morning, I was headed to work down southbound I-25. I had just passed the 6th Avenue exit when a car cut me off causing to slam on my breaks. I was worried because the car behind me had been tailgating me, so I was watching my rearview mirror to make sure she didn’t hit me…

Next thing I knew, I saw a Semi, the kind that haul large amounts of lumber that are like 40 ft. long, loose control in the northbound lane. It started swinging right and cars were going everywhere, he tried getting it under control, but over compensated and the rear end started swinging around the other way.

Then, like a scene out of Speed, the semi crashed into the concrete barrier, taking out a 20 ft chunk of the wall and sent it flying into the southbound oncoming traffic. The semi jumped like 10 ft in the air over the barrier it had just busted, and came crashing down and bounced a few times.

I am very thankful to be alive right now! If I hadn’t been exiting the next exit, I would have been in the lane he came crashing down on! I was literally 2 lanes from being crushed under his wheels. It’s now been more than an hour since it happened, and I am still shaking, and can’t even get composed for work right now!

This if quite frankly the scariest moment I have ever experienced in my life, even more so than my major accident I had when I was 16! Obviously, given all that was happening, I had some sort of guardian watching over me to navigate through all that untouched!
