iPhone Upgrade Woes… Learn from My Problems!

Today, Apple release iPhone update version 1.1.1. It brings some great new features like the iTunes Store for the iPhone,

Other new features:
– Louder speakerphone and receiver volume
– Home Button double-click shortcut to phone favorites or music controls
– Space bar double-tap shortcut to intelligently insert period and space
– Mail attachments are viewable in portrait and landscape
– Stocks and cities in Stocks and Weather can be re-ordered
– Apple Bluetooth Headset battery status in the Status Bar
– Support for TV Out
– Preference to turn off EDGE/GPRS when roaming internationally
– New Passcode lock time intervals
– Adjustable alert volume

However, in all the greatness, Apple overlooked one issue. When I installed the update to my iPhone, it told me that I needed to enter my passcode to unlock the phone… However, when I went to do this, my phone told me it had to be activated before I could do anything other than make emergency calls.

I was getting quite frustrated, and only more so when I had to wait for 45 minutes to get ahold of tech support. After that, I had to talk with the tech support for 30 minutes to get my problem resolved. Unfortunately, it meant having to do a complete restore of the iPhone, but how does one do that when iTunes won’t recognize the iPhone?

I had to disconnect the phone from the computer, then turn it off. Once it was off, I then had to hold the home button down for 10 seconds, and then connect the phone to my computer. Once I did that, the phone asked if I wanted to restore the phone. Once that was done, I then had to sync the phone, and go back in and reset all my settings on the phone.

One big thing, if you are reading this Apple… Please make a way to delete multiple e-mails at once, as well as a way to empty the trash can!

Ahh… Kids Say the Funniest Things!

The other night, I went to meet up with my friend who was in town. She wanted to go for a Boba Tea run. She decided she wanted to introduce her 5 year old nephew, and 7 year old niece to the stuff.

We got in the truck, and she realized she had forgotten something and had to run back in the house… Leaving me to be uncomfortable with two children in the back seat of the truck. Antonia proceeded to tell me that if anything were to happen to her parents, that her mom had told her that Gina would be her new mom. After an awkward silence from that announcement, I said, well, I think she could be a great mom…. Dante immediately responded, “No she wouldn’t.”

On our way back from the Boba Tea place, we passed a Subway restaurant, which is apparently Dante’s favorite restaurant… So he said, Subway… Eat Fresh. Gina decided to test his knowledge of slogans, so she asked him what McDonalds slogan was… His response? McDonalds… Eat Crap!

Needless to say, he was a little spitfire, and made for a highly entertaining car ride!

Finally!!!

kitchen2.jpg
Well, after 18 months living in our new home, we finally have a dishwasher and a disposal! No more stinky disposal because I couldn’t turn it on, and no more doing the dishes by hand! Since selling the condo back in April, I have finally been able to start getting some of the important stuff done around the house! I got a home improvement loan a few months back, and have been trying to get an electrician out to the house.

I finally tracked someone who had time to come take a look at the place and he has made me feel more at ease. I was led to believe that the house was going to require a service change to get me back on my feet. But the guy that I have doing the work, is only doing what needs to be done to get the house back up to snuff. He let me know that if I could avoid doing it without a service upgrade I would be better off in the long run. A service change apparently involves higher taxes and getting permits and stuff.

While the electrical is not pretty, he has managed to work with what is there to get the appliances set up so they are not on a GFI outlet. Appliances and computers will trip a GFI, and our house was set up with everything on one. As an added bonus, I was able to get rid of all the extension cords in the kitchen that came from other rooms to run the fridge, microwave, etc.!

The good news is that this should definitely come in well under $1000. I had planned on it being more in the realm of $3-4k. So with all that extra money in pocket, I can try and get other things done like new windows and a new front door to try and keep in some of the heat this winter!

Next up is getting the plumbing fixed so that the washer machine can drain correctly. Then a new furnace for this next winter! Getting all these problems fixed, I now have so many extension cords that I just don’t know what to do with! 🙂

Leave Chris Crocker Alone!

The radio can’t get enough of Chris Crocker’s rant, and apparently neither can anyone else! For those of you that saw the Chris Crocker video earlier this week with his meltdown over people picking on Britney Spears… I bring you Seth Green’s response! It is hysterical!!! I especially giggle over his putting the eyeliner on!

A Rough Week For Friends…

I am writing to ask for my blogging friends out there to keep a number of mine and Dan’s friends in their thoughts… This has been a rough time for them. I warn you this is a real downer post. 😦

One of our friends was hit this weekend with a severe infection in her leg. The docor informed her she needed surgery right away or she would probably lose her leg. Fortunately she was home visiting her parents, so she has someone around to take care of her, unfortunately, her 17 year old cat back home has gone into renal failure and will most likely not survive till she gets home, as she could be layed up for 2 months.

Another good friend has also gotten some weird bacterial infection and is laid up in bed for a bit while things heal and get better.

Our friend in Amsterdam has also been having problems, and went in for surgery to have a sandokan kidney stone removed. She is doing better and is healing.

And, Mandrake, Spicy’s cat that lost a limb earlier this year after being hit, has had another mishap. As a result he may be blind in one eye as well as suffer brain damage.

It’s times like this that I wonder why bad things continually happen to good people! All three of them are in my thoughts, and would appreciate any thoughts you can put out there for our friends!

Labor Day – Trip to Mt. Evans

Well, what a nice relaxing weekend. Friday night, I did nothing… Saturday, I mostly did nothing, then went to the “When Animals Improv II” show staring Monkey’s Uncle and Rodents of Unusual Size. A lot of fun, especially the Mouse Trap game where they littered the stage with mouse traps and had the players act out the seen blindfolded walking across them barefoot.

teabig0802.jpgSunday… Did a little yard work… TOO HOT… came inside, then went out for Boba Tea (at the Lollicup just up the street from us at Nome & Montview for those looking for great Boba Tea!) If you haven’t experienced this treat, then, I highly recommend you do! It comes in various tea flavors or more exoctic fruit flavors. Our friend’s Leslie and Matt introduced me to it. And have had it a few times since… Wonderful stuff, especially the Snow variety! I have had such great flavors as Pumpkic Spice, Rose Flower and Banana. Basically it’s a tea drink that has the bobas in the drink… They are pearls of tapioca about the size of a small marble that you drink through a large straw. The bobas are like the consistency of a gummy bear.

yellowbelliedmarmot.jpgFor Labor Day, Lorne and I went on a little road trip up to Mt. Evans. We drove to Echo lake and walked around there for a bit, then moved on to the drive to the 14,103 ft. top. A little nerve racking for someone like me who has that fear of heights thing! But I made it up and back down! Along the way we encountered some of the wildlife, up close and personal! This little Yellow Bellied Marmot came right up to the car thinking we were going to feed it when we slowed down to avoid hitting it. The same held true for the Mt. Goats. They walked right down the middle of the road going car to car hoping for some food. Once we got to the top, the view was amazing! I have posted our pictures here for your viewing pleasure!

Boston/NY Aug 2007 – The Video

I present to you my first project in iMovie ’08. Much easier to use than the old iMovie once I figured out how it works. I just wish they hadn’t dropped some of the features like being able to fade music in and out. If you are using a modern browser, like Safari 2.0 or Firefox 2, here is a link to a higher res version of the video.

Enjoy!
