True Dat Keith

Thanks to Howard, for pointing me to this video of Keith Olbermann. He speaks passionately about his disgust at California’s passing of Prop 8 to add Hate to the California constitution.

While Dan and I are content to remain unmarried, it really is sad that in this day and age, we are still denied this right! Keith speaks great volumes of reason, and I urge you to share his sentiment with as many people as you can.

Now that I have seen a minority elected into the highest office of this country, I would like to hope that I will see gay rights finally be realized in my lifetime! I still can’t put into words how amazed and happy I am at last Tuesday night’s election results for President! Now if we can get the country to stop taking steps backwards on other social issues!

True Colors – Red Rocks – June 10, 2007

truecolors.jpg

redrocks.jpgYesterday was the concert event I had been waiting for since January. Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors tour. For the Denver stop, they had The Cliks, The Dresden Dolls, Deborah Harry, Erasure and of course Cyndi with Margaret Cho hosting. I had not been to a Red Rocks concert since I saw Sting on the Soul Cages Tour in like 1991. It is such an amazing experience there! All the acts mentioned how humbled and in awe they were to be performing on the legendary stage that is truly the most beautiful place to experience a concert event in the world!

The show started immediately at 6pm on the dot, (the only concert I have been to that was that punctual!). And as is tradition with Red Rocks, 6pm also meant the start of rain… Although, thankfully, it was a sprinkle that lasted about 10 minutes, unlike the drenching rain that fell during Sting! But, it just isn’t a concert at Red Rocks if a little rain doesn’t fall!

margaretcho.jpgMargaret Cho was fantastic as the host. Her crass humor just added to the whole evening. She started off the night by saying that we were all here in celebration of Falwell’s death (to resounding cheers!). Her crassness definitely weeded a few people out. I know there was a couple in front of us that got offended by her and, I heard the wife say, that’s enough, and grabbed her husband and left… Oh well, they obviously didn’t know who Margaret Cho was in advance or they would have known to expect that. The one thing she kept stressing is that you straight guys out there need to clean down there! She said she would suck it if it’s clean! 😉

dresdendolls.jpgI was not all that excited about the first two acts as they weren’t really my kind of music (more suited for Dan, even if he doesn’t like the Dresden Dolls). I will say that the Cliks did a great cover of Justin Timberlake’s Cry Me a River. The Dresden Dolls give a great performance, and are quite funny, even if I didn’t care for their music that much.

deborahharry.jpgUnfortunately I was let down by Deborah Harry. She didn’t sing any of her Blondie day’s songs, it was all her solo material, and I was sadly bored. I had high hopes after seeing Blondie live in England back in 2002. I just didn’t find her solo material all that inspiring. It was still great to see her getting out there and supporting the cause! Although someone should of told her that the silver sequined mini tube skirt made her butt look like a mirrored ball, but hey, maybe that’s what she was going for.

vince.jpgandy.jpgThen Erasure came out. The entire audience was on their feet for the performance! It was great seeing that large an audience give them such a great reception! They started off with Sunday Girl, then played a few classics, and some more new tracks. The set felt very short, and seemed over in no time.. but still an amazing performance from the Duo! Vince was hilarious in his camo jumpsuit and white wig. His wig reminded me of Carol Channing, and his overall look was very Pet Shop Boy-esque. That was a bit strange to me, but fun none-the-less! They definitely still have a huge following here in the states even if most people won’t admit it. 😉

cyndi.jpgFinally Cyndi… What can I say… I have never been to a performance of hers, but I have a whole new respect for her… She is such an honest caring person! She gave a very heartfelt speech at the beginning of her set about the need for society to learn how to co-exist. Her experiences with Matthew Shepherd’s mother made her realize that we can’t get past the hate if we ourselves turn to hate over those that start the hate. I could tell that, myself included, much of the audience was in tears over her speech. She emphasized how one person can make a difference, and asked that everyone make sure to write their senators about the pending vote on the Matthew Shepard Hate Crime bill.

Her performance was amazing… Such emotion in her singing, and interaction with the audience. She went down into the audience many times to shake hands and be close to her peeps! She has got to be one of the most real people in the entertainment business, what you see is what you get with her! After the show, she came down to be with the people left, and would have stayed longer, but the Red Rocks staff wanted the people to leave so they made her go back stage, but you could tell that was not her desire.

For the end of the show, all the performers came back out on stage and did a great performance of “Take a Chance on Me” from ABBA, and then finished of the show with her song that inspired it all “True Colors.” They brought out a children’s choir with kids from CO Springs to perform with her. How great it was to see Andy and Cyndi performing together! For all those who get to go to the future performances on the rest of the tour, you are in for one amazing show!

I will get the rest of my pictures from the concert uploaded as soon as possible!

I was able to get two songs recorded with my digital camera… I apologize the quality is poor, but it wasn’t meant for recording video!

That Question Scott Didn’t Ask… Part 1

One of Scott’s questions on Scott-O-Rama (who sadly is taking a hiatus right now) was to give him a question that he didn’t ask that he should of. My answer was, “What was it like coming out at a conservative Lutheran College?” I realized that was actually a good topic for me to write about here, so here is part 1…

I feel I need to start with a little background from growing up.

I always felt a little different. I realized in third grade that I was having feelings for some of the other boys in my class. I believed that what I was feeling was wrong, and as a result didn’t like putting myself in a situation where I was around any of them for fear they would figure things out. I became very isolated from the rest of the kids, except for the one outcast girl in the class. She and I would go dig in the sand during recess.

I did have a couple of kids from school that I occasionally hung out with. I ended up fooling around with them a little. Never anything real serious, mostly just touching. Then my parents got a divorce when I was 12, and I blamed myself for their divorce because I thought they knew about me. I shut the door hard, and started getting very involved with the youth group at my church. I thought for sure that all I needed was a good influence in my life.

The feelings I had never went away, I always found myself looking at the other boys at my youth group. I am sure a few of them figured it out as they teased me behind everyone else’s back at group. By my senior year in high school, I decided I would go to college at a Lutheran School. If I couldn’t learn how to change being surrounded by nothing but Christians then I was doomed!

My freshman year of college was all about trying to date girls there. I went through quite a few my first year, never getting any further than a kiss, mainly because anything else just seemed foreign, and weird to me. I had to work very close with a guy in the theater department, he was very tall, and very good looking. I really wanted to have fun with him, but knew that I couldn’t. I was trying to get over that. I don’t know that he was gay, but thought he could have been. Maybe I just wanted him to be.

My sophomore year, I met a girl, and we dated. I made it clear to her that I was against premarital sex… and so it was for a month. She decided that a few of us would get a hotel room off campus so we could go get drunk. I got really blitzed that night, and passed out. The next morning, my friend and roommate asked me if I knew what happened the night before. Apparently, my girlfriend, took it upon herself to work on getting me up and having her way with me. I still don’t remember it happening, but, I know that the other two with us would not lie to me about something like that.

I gave up at that point, spent much of my time drunk in order that we could have sex. It felt good, but it still never felt right to me (getting drunk was the only way I could bring myself to it). We went on for about 5 months like that, until one night. We had a little get together, and everyone got quite drunk. She and I were in the bedroom, and the really hot guy at the party wandered in. He sat at the end of the bed and watched. She asked me if he could join in, and I agreed, secretly wanting to see him naked anyway. It was too dark to really see much and it was very awkward, he made sure not to come into contact with me at all that night. That was the beginning of my realization that I could no longer deny who I was. I was more interested in watching him, than my girlfriend.

A week later, I found a pregnancy test in the trash that was positive. She told me not to worry, that it had been taken care of. I also found out that she had been cheating on me with another guy from town(If she had gone through with the pregnancy, who knows who the baby would have belonged to). It came at the right time to break up with her without having to say I was gay.

As, I learned with Heroes this season, this is a good place to say “To Be Continued…!” 🙂 Can’t put all the good stuff in one post! Look for more next week.

Am I the Only One Seeing Something Wrong Here?

Apparently, Us Homosexuals are lower than dogs! Today, at the Aspen Grove’s “Lifestyle” Center, they tried to set a record for the most dogs to be wed at one time. I didn’t hear any about any protests that this was blasphemous to the practice of marriage. Yet, gays and lesbians are still denied this right that is apparently now reserved for man and woman, and dogs if you happen to be of the canine persuasion!

Maybe I am wrong, but the “definition” of marriage that the right wing is trying to push is between one man and one woman… To me, that would mean that dogs are just not in that category! They are neither man or woman… they are just bitches! How does THIS not make a mockery of marriage?

My favorite part of the article? This quote right here:

“It was time to make it legal. Dezi is totally in love with Lucy,” she said. “They are both almost two years old and they’ve been living together the whole time.”

That’s all that many of us in the GLBT community have been trying to do for years now!

Some big goings on in the the Blog-O-Sphere this week!

First, looks like the real father of Anna Nicole Smith’s Daughter Dannielynn has come forward over at Jeff C.’s new improved Footprints on the Ceiling, and it appears to be a local!

On a more serious note, one of my newer blogging friend’s, Amber, posts about her Skittles being diagnosed with Feline Luekemia. Please send her well wishes as she goes through this rough time! You can also read about what exactly Feline Luekemia is, and what it does as well as symptoms.

Fastlad has brought us an article that shows the real way to hate gay people. And it isn’t the way NBA player, Tim Hardaway, did it. Really makes me sad that people can’t all just get along. 😦

Howard and Fastlad brought this lighthearted look at the 3 Musketter’s commercial that is making the other one Snicker:

Gizmodo brings us a look another advancement in Japanese Vending Machine technology! It sure makes those iPod vending machines pale in comparison!

Scott-O-Rama brings us this bizarre look at wedding rituals.

Howard has an interesting read about labeling people these days and how it has gotten out of control and being used in a bad light.

A few weeks ago, Out in Hollywood posted about Hasselhoff taking one of the leads in “The Producers” in Vegas. Well this week he has posted pictures of Hasselhoff getting all dolled up, and boy does he look like a drag!

I helped Dan get his header together for his blog this week, chocked full of naked men to attract the gay men to his site! It seems to be a requirement for gay blogs.

And finally, as of this posting, the number of spam comments Akismet has saved me from has outnumbered the number of actual comments I have on my blog! 420 to 418 as of right now.

T.R. Knight’s Interview on Ellen – UPDATED

Although, I have never seen Grey’s Anatomy… I have heard much about the unfortunate “name calling” that happened. You can really tell how much it hurt T.R. when it happened, and how much he respects people like Ellen who have paved the way for making coming out, just a little bit easier for people.

UPDATE: Isaiah Wasnhington has publicly apologized for his gay slur against T.R. Knight. He has agreed that what he said was wrong in any context, and has said that he will meet with GLAAD to apologize to the gay community, and show that he plans to help make ammends for the pain he has caused.

I say, good for him, as long as he means it, and isn’t just doing this to save his job!
